The Instituto Metrópole Digital (IMD) is a Specialized Academic Unit of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Norte (UFRN), with a profile different from most of the academic centers and departments of the Brazilian federal universities. This profile is aligned with its mission to foster the creation of a Technology Pole in Information Technology in the state of Rio Grande do Norte, encompassing initiatives from the public, private and academic sectors, the basis for its organizational structure.
IMD works in the technical, higher education and postgraduate levels, whose actions integrate social and digital inclusion. In addition, research and technological innovation actions, training of young talents and encouragement of the culture of entrepreneurship have resulted in the creation of Inova Metrópole, an incubator of technology-based companies in the area of Information Technology (IT).
The Institute has an integration profile with other departments and units of UFRN, aiming to foster interdisciplinarity with other areas related to IT, since this is the basis of innovation and the way to train professionals prepared for the new job market. The management profile of IMD also presents specific particularities, following the principles of integration, interdisciplinarity and innovation. The Board of Trustees and the Academic Development Board are composed of faculty and technical-administrative staff from different departments and areas of expertise. In addition, there is the Advisory Board, which includes people, external to the IMD, with notorious knowledge and experience in their fields of activity.
